| Andrew joins MetLife in 2009 following two years as the director/rider for the Flatbread/Otter Creek team based in central Vermont. Although he’s had a relatively short bike racing career, his life as an endurance athlete began long before as a Nordic skier in the frosted, wooded land of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Andrew is the head coach of the Middlebury College Nordic Ski Team where he spends October through March sequestered in his office arranging training plans for athletes or traversing the rutted back roads of New England XC ski country in a veggie oil-powered Dodge Ram turbodiesel. Andrew is a gifted climber. He has to be. He lives about halfway up Middlebury Gap, a Vermont climb that eases cyclists from the flats to a gentle 15% incline in about 300 feet. Climbing hills is a way of life for him and this season will surely prove it. |
